The Ceiling of the Sistene Chapel was painted by Michealangelo in 1512. He used the Fresco technique which means to apply paint to wet plaster. The main componets are nine scenes from the book of Genesis. Also, behind the altar is Michealangelo's arguably best painting called Last Judgement.
